Chapter 4: Our very first Apple Juice
Right after work, I went to the stationary shop and waited for her. She walked down casually.
"Bliss. Looks like you were waiting for me."
"I was standing near the window upstairs and say you coming. I was quite sure that you were coming for me."
"I love the confidence Bliss. Shall we go for dinner?"
"Sure. Chinese?"
"Great. I know this awesome hawker stalls. They serve nice dumplings there."
We joked and laughed about a lot of things on our way to that place. Bliss was a lively and cheerful girl. She had her way of making people go crazy. She had so many stories to share with me. Not any stories but really funny ones.
I have never laughed like that before in my life. She really made my stomach ache so much. But I noticed something about her. She was not at all sharing anything about her personal life or her family background. That bothered me a little. But that mysterious part of hers drew me closer to her wanting to know more.
We had awesome dumplings and I told her so many things about me. I told her about my childhood, education, parents and the small circle of friends I had. She had a lot of questions. She practically dug out a lot of information about my life. But i got nothing out of her. I dropped her home and surprisingly she invited me upstairs to her house.
"Are you sure Bliss?"
"The thing is Elvin, I am not scared anymore."
"Were you scared of me?"
"Yes I was."
She lead me upstairs to her house. She dragged the grills and opened the wooden door. Her house was very empty but cute in a way. She had one rocking chair in the middle of the living room. It looked really old. She has a folding table and there was a laptop, speaker and some books on it. She had a shelf and it was decorated with an old sleeping Buddha on it. The shelf was full of novels and encyclopedias. She lead me to her kitchen. There was a small fridge, a cabinet, a stove, a boiler and a basket of fruits.
She swung open the wooden door in her kitchen and it lead to a really small cute balcony. There was few hanging pots of orchids. And her inner wear drying everywhere. She quickly took them all off and vanished into the house. I stood there waiting for her. She came out again with two glasses of apple juice.
She even dragged out two stools from the kitchen counter. She lit up a mosquito coil since there was a lot of them. I sat there and chatted with her for a while. Then i finally gathered some courage and asked her,
"Why are you staying here alone? Where are your parents?"
She smiled at me.
"They must be alive. Feeling guilty somewhere. Someplace I don't know."
I was very puzzled. Does that mean she was thrown as a baby? She is an orphan? She has no one? Millions of questions were flooding my mind.
"Bliss. Does that mean, you are from an orphanage?"
"No Elvin. Maybe a life there would have been better."
"I don't get it Bliss."
"Elvin. I was the seventh in my family. My parents decided they didn't want another child. So they gave me a way to a childless couple. They are rich. But unluckily they had no kids of their own. Until the age of nine, I had the best time of my life. Until one day my foster mother conceived. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl."
She sipped the apple juice and looked at me. Her eyes were now tearing. I couldn't see her crying. Not after I adore her so much.
"Bliss don't cry please."
"I am sorry Elvin. I never really spoke to anyone about myself or anything else. I don't have friends at all."
"Go on Bliss. You have me now."
"So, they did took care of me. But in a very inconvenient way. Many times, they said that I am a burden to them and taking care of me stopped them from doing somethings due to financial constraints."
"And what happened after that."
"Many things happened after that Elvin. Many things."
She wiped her eyes. I felt like hugging her and telling her that everything was fine. But I stood up and walked out to the main door quietly.
"I am going home now Bliss. I am working tomorrow. Would you like a hug?"
"No. I am fine Elvin."
"You are fine. But I am not. I could really use some hug."
She smiled and walked towards me. She hugged me really strongly and refused to let go for like 30 seconds. I know she needed it more than anyone else. I kissed her forehead. She looked at me confusingly. I quickly walked out and went back home.
I couldn't sleep that night. She told me a bit of her story. I certainly knew she was hiding many other things that has taken place in her life. I wish I can know the whole story and help her out. This point of my life, I didn't know what I had for her. I was confused about the feelings I was developing for a loner girl like Bliss.
